Next November, Brisbane will host G20. The meeting of the 20 most powerful world leaders presents a unique opportunity for individuals to protest many issues including profoundly important economic issues. It is essential that the leaders of the world listen to the views of the population – peaceful protest is a great way to achieve this end.
The Police Minister has introduced a Bill to parliament with wide ranging and special police powers for G20 next year. These law change established legal righst and safeguards. This Thursday night, I will paricipate in a public forum on security and protest rights during G20 in Brisbane. The forum is free to the public and being held in the Banco Court of the Brisbane Supreme Court Laws Complex on George Street. Griffith Univeristy, in conjunction with Caxton Legal Centre, is hosting the event. For more information, see this link.
